jogging through macy's with an assault rifle. are we talking about the same store here? >> this is where it gets kind of crazy. this is megan, by the way. when we were in the back stockroom there was somebody on the phone and they said one of their friends was in the mall and there were supposedly a second shooter. so, we asked her to describe him and she said he was just in a hockey -- not a hockey mask but a ski mask and we said that is weird because we saw somebody in a hockey mask. we don't know if there was one or two shooters or what happened. they stopped filling us in once we were evacuated two hours later. so i don't know if another story you got is about a second shooter or not. >> the police are saying at this point they believe there was one shooter. are you sure the person you saw scaring kids is the alleged shooter? >> i mean it was the only person we saw in a hockey mask in all black clothing. >> it is kind of fishy. they said he began in the food court. so it would just seem rather strange if it was somebody else in the same outfit and mask. >> right. is the macy's, is th

at the macy's department store in the broadway plaza. new at noon, paul chambers joins us live to explain what was taken and how this could happen during the busy holiday season. good afternoon, paul. >> reporter: good afternoon, tori. now, this is a story we've been working on since this morning. we're still working on it and trying to get more information. at this macy's store right here in walnut creek, it's the women and children's store. we have very limited information. bur here's what we know. yellow tape still surrounds the area where police say a perp or people broke into the macy's store at 3:15 this morning. apparently, the criminals broke the glass windows to two separate doors before ending up inside greking -- breaking through the plate glass and steeling -- stealing jewelry. macy's would not allows inside. but i counted four cameras and police will review it today. we are awaiting a statement from macy's. but senator a major statement that needs to be answered -- but there is a major statement that needs to be answered. the alarm i hope to have more on that at 5:00. we come back

-- the game plan is to try to fill the white space between macy's and nord strorm. they're not moving as high end as a nordstrom or a saks and trying to move a bit away from the promotional model that a macy's has today. the problem is, is, as they strayed from that promotional model, the customer found other places to shop. i think the reality is, their customer was a lot sicker than they believed to begin with. and so, you know, where they lost some of these customers was to places like sears, walmart, to ross and tjmaxx. regaining that customer back is going to be difficult, as we head into next year and beyond. you know, i do think some semblance of the long-term vision that ron laid out back in january can potentially be here longer term but i just don't know how many pieces of that pie are going to be intact. >> all right, matthew, thank you for your time. matthew over at jpmorgan. where do you stand, pete, on jcpenney and what do you see in terms of befting either way? >> on jcpenney, the paper is constant in there and everybody is trying to pick bottoms and being wrong. and the stock

at a macy's store. someone broke the store's doors. police are going over surveillance video to see if it shows the break-in. they're also trying to find out why it took more than an hour to find them after the store's burglar alarm went off. police have made two arrests in another robbery that happened this afternoon. it had a masked man threatening a jewelry store worker with mace and a handgun. paul stevenson has why the location of the robbery was especially dangerous. >> reporter: a short time later the man came out with more than $140,000 in jewelry. this is one of the two men hayward police took into custody today after a robbery and short pursuit in hayward. a man went into a mall and took charge of the gold company. >> he was armed with mace and a hammer, smashed the jewelry display case. >> reporter: the suspect then left the mall and met up with another man waiting in a car outside. the two sped off and were later chased by officers who caught them a short time later about a mile away. >> this vehicle came to a stop, when the vehicle stopped on its own with several vehicl

an assault rifle. outside of macy's, gunshots echoed where a man was portraying santa clause in the santa village and taking photos with kids an he heard two gunshots and 15 to 16 more and immediately he said he hit the floor amidst all of these kids. the clackamas county sheriff confirmed the gunman was a single shooter, an adult male. there are no details on the motive, possible motives and no information has been released about the two people he killed. 20-year-old taylor gibson works in the mall and she was helping to get people to safety when she heard the terrifying gunshots. she's now live on the phone with us. taylor, can you hear me? >> are yes. >> describe the scene as best you saw it unfold. >> i was actual. ly walking from the back of my store toward the front when i heard the first gunshot. my first thought was something large has fallen but they were within a half second of each other and by the third shot, i thought, this is happening this is real. these are gunshots and this is going on. i changed glances with my manager and it was go time that we needed to get to safety.

as -- dark camo, body armor. witnesses say he walked into the macy's and then two people were killed. a sheriff told us at a press conference that the shooter died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. no officer or deputy ever fired a shot out here. there were about 10,000 people at the mall, many of them doing their christmas shopping. we heard about terrifying accounts of ducking for cover. one man telling us he was in the food court, tried to get two elderly women to safety as he heard gunshot ricocheting off pillars. the investigation today will county. there is a press conference at 10:00 this morning where we're hoping to get more information are -- more information from the sheriff. they say they've tentatively identified him but they've not released his name to the press. they are telling us that he's in his early 20s. our than that, no information and because -- other than that, no information and because he did kill himself, the motive at this point -- investigators are gonna have to talk to his families and friends kind of backtrack to see what caused him to open fire. again
